Cancel the Viewforth Link Road

Full Title: Cancel the Viewforth Link Road and invest in environmentally-sound local infrastructure.

Information Provided by the Principle Petitioner

The Viewforth link road is a multi-million pound road expansion scheme, projected to increase (based on pre-pandemic levels), traffic, noise and air pollution in the City Centre roads and local communities. It will involve the felling of mature trees which are part of the city's heritage.

This petition asks Stirling Council to reconsider the significant expenditure (over £3 Million) on the Viewforth Link Road, following the declaration of its own Climate and Ecological Emergency and in light of the COVID pandemic challenges we face.

We believe the link road is an investment in the past, an old approach to a twenty-first century issue, an investment in decline rather than growth.

We Ask Our Council:

• To prioritise investment in a green and just recovery, addressing its declaration of a Climate and Ecological Emergency

• To invest in robust sustainable transport initiatives throughout Stirling, with a strong emphasis on prioritising pedestrians, cyclists, and affordable public transport across rural and urban Stirling .

• To work with local people to develop a vision for growth that is cleaner, healthier and environmentally sustainable, drawing on the strengths and energy of our local communities, small businesses and producers

• To protect vital services post-pandemic, particularly for our most vulnerable residents, and young people

• To protect and develop local biodiversity for the benefit of us all and avoid ecological degradation at all costs.

Reason the petition was assessed as invalid

• There does not appear to have been any reasonable steps in attempting to resolve issues with Officers of the Council before submission of the petition.
