Grass maintenance

From "Ward 1 - Trossachs and Teith"

Great that you know to lift clipping in autumn. Yellow rattle added to the ground, perhaps as plug plants is a grass parasite so that would help reduce the volume of the grass.

some evidence of how these schemes have worked for other council areas would be good. I think it is a good idea, we certainly need to protect our wildlife so adding pollen rich wild flowers would benefit the eco systems.
@M Brunella I think quite a few English councils have been doing it for years and it’s a no brainer that it works for wildlife. We just need to get iur heads around the fact that not all grass areas need to be nest and tidy. Some should be though otherwise we’d have nowhere to play and chill, it’s about getting a balance. Tricky.
Then I think we should ensure the council employees given the task of litter lifting do their job thoroughly so that doesn’t happen. But I understand your concerns because I’ve seen the so called street sweepers wander around big parts of Glasgow without lifting a single piece of litter and when I complained over a period of 5-6 years, nothing changed. If everyone just did the job they’re paid to do the system would work quite well.

Infrequent refuse collection and long grass will see an explosion of vermin. All cost saving measures disguised as environmental benefits. Its getting ridculous.
Cost saving or not uncut grass is better for wildlife.

Hi Richard. Over time the wild flowers being allowed to flower will seed so it won’t just be grass. Remember wildlife, insects, birds don’t need tidy. That’s a human requirement we need to try and move away from. I think we just need to give it a chance.

@Brian Patterson Hi Brian, are the grass areas being seeded with wild flowers, if not its a cost saving initiative.
Areas where Daffodils are planted will look unsightly by Autumn. Seems more like a cost saving initiative.
