Polmaise Colliery
From "Local Nature Conservation Sites (LNCS)"
Go to the project
This area of woodland has a surprising amount of structural diversity owing to it's historical uses. There are areas of bog and wetland along with native woodland.
Furthermore, it is of national historical importance owing to links to the battle of Bannockburn.

I support this becoming a LNCS, the scrub and wetland features supports a variety of breeding passerines and have the potential to support invertebrate communities of conservation interest including notable aquatic and ephemeral wetland associated beetles and flies, as well as moths associated with the scub. Toad (a Scottish Biodiversity List species) has also been recorded here. The adjacent mature willow stand is also of high biodiversity value, likely to support a range of invertebrate species, including early season pollinators such as solitary bees and hoverflies.
