Speed reducing measures need for resident safety in Old Plean

Cars are constantly driving above the speed limit in Old Plean causing safety concerns.
Road surveys undertaken earlier this year show approximately 50% of the traffic in this area were above speed limit on a daily basis. Council officials don't think this is bad enough to warrant any speed reduction but the other end of the village which has the same traffic and issues has a 20mph limit.
This petition has been raised by Stirling Council on behalf of a member of the public.

Make it 20 mph through whole village. No excuse for speeding drivers who might claim they don’t see the change from 30 to 20.

The introduction of the 20 mph limit at the north end of the village has been effective and appreciated. It makes no sense to have a higher limit at the south end and is confusing to drivers.
Just for perspective, it takes 30 seconds longer to drive from the school to the Glen road at 20 mph than at 30mph. Are those 30 seconds really so important?

@Robert McWilliam I was crossing the road from papershop to other side and saw a car just before the Stirling side bus stop so knew I would have time, hah, I nearly got run over by said car travelling in excess of 50mph he was on me in a flash, I let out one roar and flagged him to slow down once I got to middle of the road, he waved in an apologetic manner and slammed on his brakes, I was livid which he obviously saw.

The pavement along main street is narrow, Lorries and cars fly past ignoring the speed limit, the backdraft can at times can knock you of balance. As a resident and a dog walker this is not a healthy situation. Crossing the road is time consuming and hazardous. Even putting the buckets out is a trial. Children, older people , residents of William Simpson Home, people on horse back all regularly use this stretch of road. Is it going to take a fatality before action is taken. Time for a reduced speed limit like the rest of the village and additional traffic calming measures. Why is it happening in one half of the village and not the other.

The 20 speed limit should cover the bottom, Falkirk end of the village too as there is a care home and children who live down that end who are just as much at risk as those living in the Stirling end of the village. Make it all 20 to safeguard all of Pleans residents. I’ve also encountered deer crossing at the care home end of the village and it’s far easier to do a safe emergency stop when a deer jumps out at you from 20 rather than 30.

As a resident of Old Plean for 25 years living next to the main A9 it is obvious to see the rise in the volume off traffic, it is also obvious in the rise in the speed of which the traffic travel at in this area, I try everyday to cross with my dog and it’s so very dangerous, we definitely are in great need of a crossing and some sort calming.
The new speed limits in the village have made a huge difference and that is great, however Old Plean residents are every bit as important and the road is every bit as dangerous so please help ?

Council must do something for this end or are we being ignored because were Old Plean. Council have refused our requests to do something. We were told it would take someone to be killed before they did anything, is that still the councils policy? Petition Signed

Something needs done soon before someone is seriously hurt. Councils encourage us to walk and leave cars at home - how can we do this when it’s not safe for our children?
The through traffic disregard any speed limits on our road. I have personally been overtaken on the street while sticking to the limit.
Stirling Council - what’s it going to take and how bad do you want it to get for you to listen to us?
