Airthrey Road
Background
Currently the road is 30mph and heavily trafficked with poor provision for cyclists and pedestrians on the West. There is no footway on the North-bound carriageway, and the narrow space provided is for use for cyclists. This current arrangement provides several safety concerns, specifically the heavy use of pedestrians, particularly school pupils, use this cycle space. Further, the cyclelane is narrow and gives a low perception of safety.
The Airthrey Road proposal has been amended since the Developed Design stage of the consultation. We are still in the process of land acquisition as well as ensuring our design proposals present minimal impact to the surrounding natural environment. As such, we are currently looking at different possible route proposals to ensure design standards for path widths are met. For this phase of construction, we will be installing temporary cycle infrastructure which reinforces the existing arrangement, and will proceed with full segregation within the second phase, allowing time to acquire land and determine best design proposal.
