February 2022 Update

15 November 2021 00:00 - 22 November 2021 00:00

Update

Following a Public Consultation, Stirling Council Children and Young People Committee on 24 February 2022 approved the recommendation proposing to close Buchanan Primary School. The Children and Young People Committee was satisfied to take this decision in accordance with the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 as Amended.

Details of the reasons Stirling Council are satisfied that the implementation is the most appropriate response under section 11 and 12 of the 2010 Act are contained in the Consultation Report (available in the feedback phase published November 2021).

Scottish Ministers Notification and Call-in Procedure

As a result of the Children and Young People Committee's decision to approve the proposal to close Buchanan Primary School, the Council has informed Scottish Ministers of this decision in accordance with Section 15(2) and 2(A) of the Schools Consultation (Scotland) Act 2010 As Amended.

The legislation allows for any person to make representations either against or to support the closure to Scottish Ministers within three weeks of the Council taking their final decision to implement a closure proposal.  Therefore, any representations must be made to Scottish Ministers by midnight 16 March 2022.

Anyone wishing to make representation to Scottish Ministers during the three week period referred to above should do so by email to schoolclosure@gov.scot.

There is a section of the Scottish Government website which includes this information and the process: www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Education/Schools/Buildings/changestoschoolestate

Further information is also available by contacting the Interim Head of Education, Stirling Council at educ-comments@stirling.gov.uk.

The Scottish Ministers have a period of eight weeks following a local authority's decision in which to decide whether to call in the decision or not. Stirling Council cannot, therefore, implement its final decision until the eight week period has elapsed.
