Buchanan Primary School Consultation

Proposal

This consultation asks your views on the following three points:

  1. Buchanan Primary School is permanently closed on 24 June 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
  2. Pupils from Buchanan Primary School catchment area will receive their education at Drymen Primary School from session 2022/23.
  3. The catchment area of Drymen Primary School is permanently extended to include the catchment area of Buchanan Primary School from 25 June 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Permanent Closure of Buchanan Primary School 

Scottish Ministers have now reviewed Stirling Council’s Proposal Paper and Consultation Report relating to the proposal to permanently close Buchanan Primary School. Scottish Ministers consider that Stirling Council has fulfilled its obligations in accordance with the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 As Amended and may now implement its decision to close Buchanan Primary School.  

Therefore, we wish to inform you that: 

  • Education provision at Buchanan Primary School will cease permanently with effect from 24 June 2022
  • Pupils of Buchanan Primary School catchment will continue their education as currently, that is, at Drymen Primary School or whichever school they are currently attending
  • The delineated catchment area for Drymen Primary School will be altered permanently to include the delineated catchment area of Buchanan Primary School with effect from 25 June 2022. 

Discussion will now take place with pupils and staff at Drymen Primary School and with some former pupils of Buchanan Primary School who currently attend Balfron High School about an appropriate way to mark the permanent closure of Buchanan Primary School during this term.  

Stirling Council will work with local community groups to explore how to make best use of the former Buchanan Primary School building.
