Callander Community Campus

Stirling Council are proposing to build a new Callander Primary School to replace the existing facilities within the town. The new site for the development is adjacent to the existing McLaren High School and McLaren Leisure Centre, creating a new Callander Community Campus.

Prior to submitting a formal planning application, we want to provide the community with an opportunity to contribute their views on the proposals to help improve the quality of our submission.

The initial information will outline our engagement process to date and how the current site location and brief have been established, with information on the building form and site layout to follow in the coming weeks.

Lorraine Isgrove3 years ago Consideration of safe drop off points for all ages of children, when the weather is wet there is more traffic on the road and more parents trying to stop and drop off children. a drive through safe drop off point should be built in with safe crossings on the Mollins road. Also parking, there will be a much higher demand for parking for High School, Primary, Nursery and leisure staff on a daily basis likely to be 100+ parking spaces. Nursery Paren and young children's parent will need to park and walk their children to school.

Fiona Boath3 years ago Callander Primary School in the current location has been unfit for purpose for at least 30 years. A community campus should have been considered at the last redesign of McLaren High School. There are many examples of Community campuses with in Perth & Kinross area that now meet the school and community needs. Crieff & Breadalbane Academy Aberfeldy being in towns of a similar size to Callander, both having leisure centre as part of the campus. BA campus Aberfeldy also houses the public library. safer and shorter routes to school from the McLaren terrace, Camp Place Stirling Road area of Callander need to be addressed , especially in the aim to have 20 minute neighbourhoods in Scotland. A new community campus needs to be fit for purpose and ensure there is enough outside learning space all the educational facilities housed with in campus as well as retraining all outside pitches shared with McLaren leisure centre.

Sian Eliza3 years ago I support these plans. Thank you.Linked to this proposal, I would very much like to see Plans for an extra road crossing around Glen Gardens- Camp Place. Efforts/ a campaign to encourage motorists to adhere to the respective 30MPH & 20MPH speed limits on Stirling Road & the Main St. The Stirling Rd stretch in particular can be a dangerous place to cross because of the speeding traffic and it can be quite unpleasant to walk this road, especially with young children.

Lara Rawson3 years ago The proposal looks promising provided safety of all pupils is paramount, especially if there are areas of the campus which will be used by members of the local community/public. I assume that all areas will be fully accessible for pupils who may need wheel chair access, or have other special needs that will need to be met. Is the outdoor space simply an area for play and sports activities, or will there be some space that could be used for outdoor classrooms to enhance the learner's experiences. Finally, is there the possibility of perhaps moving the local library up to this campus so that the nursery, both schools and the public have access to a bigger and better facility?

Nicola Kennedy3 years ago We definitely need a new primary school, and the plans look good, my only concern would be that there needs to be enought green space for all pupils to play - sports day activities, outdoor learning, gardening areas for alternative pathways etc. keeping the astro 3g pitch is vital, not only for the school but for the wider community and Mclaren Leisure center. I think it is important to maximise the outdoor space. Not all of our young people thrive in a classroom so we need to ensure we have plenty outdoor/hands on /alternative learning.

Natalie Forde3 years ago I wondered if there was an opportunity to form a community garden of some kind on this new community campus development. It could possibly tie with/replace the current High School and Nursery gardens. I am assuming a growing space is planned for the primary school. I know that something similar has worked very well at Braehead and this could be used as a model, I have included their website below. I am aware the council has been in discussion about a possible allotment site in Callander and this could be an opportunity to pursue a possible community growing space solution.http://www.braehead.org/garden/about
