Park Management Rules Consultation

Background

The Council has legal responsibility for the parks and play areas it owns and under its control. The Council has received reports that some children, particularly young children can be wary or frightened of dogs, especially if the dog is barking, boisterous or off a lead.

Although some play parks have boundary fences and self-closing gates, dog owners are able to take their dogs into equipped play parks as there is no rule to restrict this. The current Rules contain a general prohibition in relation to dogs causing alarm, harm or disturbing other park users.

The purpose of the amendment is to provide clarity to users of the parks and play areas on control of dogs.

Our Park Management Rules are displayed on signs and on noticeboards in all our main parks.

See phase one of the project for the proposed new rules.

Next Steps

18 February 2022 00:00 - 21 February 2022 00:00

We have collated all of the feedback you provided earlier on in the project.

We have written a report, with recommendations, that we will now add to the agenda of the next Environment and Housing Committee. This committee consists of Elected Members and officers from the land services team who will talk through the outcomes and findings.

When this report has been discussed with Elected Members, we will publish the recommendations and next steps here. Timescales will be updated on this site when confirmed.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project.
