Taxi Fare Review

Stirling Council reviews taxi fares and charges every 18 months and must consult on any proposals to change the taxi fare tariff.

A review of the current taxi fare and charges has been carried out by LVSA and is included below. The recommendation is for fares to be increased by approximately 3% by making the following changes to the taxi fare table:

No change to the waiting time charge;
The flag drop fares for Tariffs 1, 2, and 3 should be increased by 3%, rounded to the nearest 10 pence;
The distance increments for all three Tariffs to change and be charged at 10 pence;
Extra charges remain unchanged.

Specific increases and the proposed new taxi fares table are shown below. If you would like to make any comments about the proposals, please use the 'Submit a comment' button.

Once we have closed this phase, responses will be shared at the Planning and Regulation Panel, and a report uploaded here.

The flag drop fares for Tariffs 1, 2, and 3 should be increased by 3%, rounded to the nearest 10 pence to the following rates:

Tariff 1 flag drop is increased from £3.40 to £3.50;
Tariff 2 flag drop is increased from £4.00 to £4.10;
Tariff 3 flag drop is increased from £5.40 to £5.60.

The distance increments for all three Tariffs to change and be charged at 10 pence as follows:

Tariff 1, distance increment 83.5 yards charged at 10 pence;
Tariff 2, distance increment 66.8 yards charged at 10 pence;
Tariff 3, distance increment 52.2 yards charged at 10 pence.

S Smith 1 year ago Response to Taxi Fare Review ConsultationI strongly oppose the proposed changes to the taxi fare table in Stirling, as they fail to address the current issues with taxi services and will only exacerbate the poor service and high costs already faced by local residents. 1. High Cost of Local Taxi Services:Stirling already suffers from some of the highest taxi fares compared to other areas, which severely impacts affordability for local residents, especially those relying on taxis for short, essential journeys. An increase in the flag drop fare and distance increments would make this worse. This is particularly problematic for those with limited transport options, including the elderly, disabled individuals, and people in rural parts of Stirling who have no alternative. 2. Poor Service Quality:Many residents have reported dissatisfaction with local taxi services, including unavailability, long wait times, and poor customer service. Increasing fares without addressing these issues is unjustifiable. Local residents would greatly benefit from competition, and UBER or similar services should be allowed to operate in Stirling. These alternatives are known to provide more cost-effective and reliable transport options. 3. Reckless Driving and Speeding:Another major concern is the behavior of taxi drivers in the area, particularly with regard to speeding on local roads. Many residents have observed taxis speeding through residential areas, putting pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers at risk. This behavior undermines public confidence in the safety of using taxis and raises serious questions about driver regulation and accountability. 4. The Need for Modernization and Competition:Rather than further increasing taxi fares, Stirling Council should focus on modernizing the transport system and encouraging healthy competition by allowing ride-hailing services like UBER. This would not only offer residents more affordable options but would also push local taxi providers to improve their services and lower costs to remain competitive.In summary, the proposed fare increase is unwarranted given the already high costs, poor service quality, and safety concerns associated with local taxis. Stirling residents need affordable, safe, and modern transport options, and introducing competition would be a far better solution than increasing fares for a substandard service.I urge the council to reconsider these proposals and prioritize the needs of local residents over fare increases that only benefit the taxi operators.

John Clarke1 year ago I feel the price change should be maybe every 3 to 5 years. Cost of living and inflation it’s just a nightmare with the cost of taxis. and also the change of tariffs on a Sunday all day. And also public holidays ect should be scrapped. ok Xmas and new year I totally understand the need to up the tariffs but I feel that all the extra holidays is unnecessary. and should also have more wheelchair accessible taxis. and also stop giving out more taxi badges. Or reduce the amount of taxi firms in Stirling. To many. make the consultation easy read. all taxi firms should have a booking app. And get a message when taxi on way. Not all taxi’s do that

Logan J1 year ago The time element of Tariff 2 should be changed. Why should people pay more because the driver is choosing to work a late shift? Journey times are quicker due to the lack of traffic at late hours and late night passenger numbers presumably higher during uni term times, so why charge a higher fee? Why not charge a higher fee during rush hours?Tariff 2 should be expanded to also apply on December 24th and 31st
