UK City of Culture 2025: Stirling's Bid

Stirling city and the wider Stirling area have been announced as the only Scottish destination to make the long list for UK City of Culture 2025, boasting a bold aim to put culture at the heart of the area’s regeneration and future growth.

Previous winners such as Hull and Coventry, have shown how culture can act as a catalyst for the regeneration of an area, attracting investment and tourism, bringing people together and reaffirming a sense of civic pride.

We recognise that cultural activity and creativity can also deliver a wider range of social benefits, enhancing learning, health and wellbeing. At the heart of our bid is a desire to improve the lives of people living in our communities; and it’s the passion for culture that flows through our area and its people that drives our ambition for the title.

Culture in Stirling is characterised by collaboration. For nearly a decade, Stirling Council, communities and creative organisations have worked together to reimagine our cultural offer, breaking down barriers and improving access to arts and cultural activities and experiences. But there’s so much more we could achieve with the right support.

Being named UK City of Culture is not about being the finished article, it’s about showing that we’re the location with the most potential. Winning is an opportunity to attract investment across the area to support our economy, communities and address challenges we face together in creative and innovative ways. Promoting and showcasing Stirling as an attractive place to live, learn, work, visit and create.
